A Georgia man who plotted to rape a woman with her boyfriend listening on the phone was caught when she dialed 911 instead of her partner, police said.
Police south of Atlanta captured Robert Giles, 27, around 4 a.m. Monday as he sexually assaulted the woman in a car parked behind an adult gift shop, Clayton County police Maj. Joe Woodall told WSB-TV . Giles had demanded the woman call her boyfriend after abducting her, police said
The “quick thinking” 911 dispatcher “might have saved her life” by pretending to be the woman’s boyfriend until officers showed up at Starship Novelties and Gifts near Jonesboro, Woodall said.
NEW MURDER CHARGE FOR SUSPECT IN SLAYING OF INDIANA WOMAN
“She explained to him what the perpetrator had told her; that he was wanting him to listen while she was being raped,” he said. “They were able to stop it right then and there and snatched him right from the car.”
The sicko now faces charges of rape, obstruction and false imprisonment, county records show. Woodall told the TV station the 911 call recording is too graphic to be released.
“It’s horrific, sir,” he said.
Police plan to add kidnapping charges to Giles’ rap because they said he had taken the victim from her nearby Hapeville home, WSB reported . A Clayton County judge ordered him held without bond Tuesday
